Best Email Marketing Software for 2026

Updated: June 2026 · Independent · No sponsored placements · Pricing re-checked monthly

We've run real campaigns through every platform on this list — not demo accounts. Below are the four email marketing tools worth your time in 2026, who each one is actually built for, and where each one quietly costs more than the sticker price suggests.

The short version

Best overall Omnisend — the best balance of price, automation and native e-commerce features for stores under ~$1M/year. Email + SMS in one tool.

Best for scale Klaviyo — highest attributed revenue for serious Shopify stores, but you pay for it as your list grows.

Best free tier Mailchimp — easiest on-ramp and the widest integration ecosystem for non-e-commerce senders.

Best for big lists Brevo — pay-by-send pricing makes it dramatically cheaper if you have many contacts but email infrequently.

1

Omnisend — best overall for e-commerce

Omnisend is what we reach for on a Shopify store that wants Klaviyo-grade automation without Klaviyo's bill. Native integration takes about five minutes, and the six pre-built flows — welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, win-back and order confirmation — cover the automations that actually drive revenue out of the box. Email and SMS live in the same workflow builder, which is the real reason to pick it over a pure-email tool.

What we liked

  • Email + SMS in one automation
  • 5-minute native Shopify/WooCommerce setup
  • Strong free plan to start (250 contacts)
  • Klaviyo-style features at roughly half the price

What frustrated us

  • Per-contact pricing climbs as your list grows
  • SMS now requires the Pro plan (changed May 2026)
  • Reporting less deep than Klaviyo at scale

Pick it if: you run a store doing under ~$1M/year and want email + SMS automation that pays for itself fast.

2

Klaviyo — best for high-revenue stores

If your store is doing real volume, Klaviyo still drives the highest attributed revenue per email of anything we tested — the segmentation and predictive analytics are a genuine step above. The catch is price: at 10,000 contacts you're looking at roughly $65–$100/month, and it keeps climbing. Klaviyo is the right answer once the extra revenue clearly outpaces the extra cost, which usually happens north of seven figures in annual sales.

What we liked

  • Best-in-class segmentation & predictive analytics
  • Highest attributed revenue for Shopify stores
  • 150 free SMS credits on the free plan

What frustrated us

  • Gets expensive fast as the list grows
  • Overkill for small or infrequent senders
  • Steeper learning curve than Omnisend

Pick it if: you're past ~$1M/year and the revenue per email justifies a premium tool.

3

Mailchimp — best free tier & easiest start

Mailchimp is the path of least resistance — the friendliest editor, the widest set of integrations, and a free tier that's fine for a newsletter or a small list. It's our pick for non-e-commerce senders: creators, local businesses, B2B newsletters. Where it falls behind is deep e-commerce automation and revenue attribution, so dedicated store owners usually outgrow it.

What we liked

  • Easiest editor and onboarding
  • Huge integration ecosystem
  • Good enough free plan for newsletters

What frustrated us

  • Weaker e-commerce automation than Omnisend/Klaviyo
  • Costs creep up at higher tiers
  • SMS is an afterthought

Pick it if: you send newsletters or run a non-store business and value simplicity.

4

Brevo — best for big lists on a budget

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) charges by emails sent rather than contacts stored — which flips the math for anyone with a large list they email occasionally. If you've got 20,000 contacts but only send once a month, Brevo can cost a fraction of a per-contact tool. It also bundles transactional email, SMS and a basic CRM. The trade-off is a less polished automation builder and fewer native e-commerce hooks.

What we liked

  • Pay-per-send is cheap for large, low-frequency lists
  • Unlimited contacts even on free
  • Transactional email + SMS + CRM bundled

What frustrated us

  • Automation builder less refined
  • Daily send caps on lower tiers
  • Fewer native e-commerce integrations

Pick it if: you have a large list but send infrequently, and want to pay for sends, not storage.

How we picked

Every tool here was used on a real list and a real automation, not a demo account. We weighted four things: how fast you get a working automation live, the true cost as your list grows (not just the headline price), deliverability on a warm list, and how much the tool fights you. We don't take vendor money for placement, and affiliate commissions don't change the order — Klaviyo and Brevo rank where they do despite us having no affiliate relationship with them. FAQ

What's the best email marketing tool for a Shopify store?

Omnisend for most stores under roughly $1M/year — it gives you email + SMS automation with native Shopify integration at about half of Klaviyo's cost. Once you're doing serious volume and revenue-per-email clearly justifies the premium, Klaviyo pulls ahead. See our Omnisend review for the full breakdown.

Is the free plan enough to start?

For a small list, yes. Omnisend, Klaviyo and Mailchimp all include a free tier up to 250 contacts, and Brevo gives you 300 emails/day with unlimited contacts. Start free, then upgrade once an automation is provably making you money.

Why is Klaviyo more expensive?

Klaviyo prices per contact and scales steeply, but it tends to drive higher attributed revenue per email through better segmentation and predictive analytics. It's worth it when the extra revenue clearly beats the extra cost — usually for larger stores.

Do I need a separate SMS tool?

Not anymore. Omnisend handles email and SMS in the same automation, which is the main reason we rank it first for e-commerce. Just note SMS now sits on Omnisend's Pro plan as of May 2026.
